The Barefoot Executive by Carrie Wilkerson (Book Review)
Title: The Barefoot Executive: The Ultimate Guide for Being Your Own Boss and Achieving Financial Freedom
Author: Carrie Wilerson
Carrie Wilkerson offers the opportunity to live life on your terms. Want to start your workday with e-mail and coffee on the back patio? Want the flexibility of joining your fourth grader on an all-day field trip? Are you ready to take that vacation you’ve been planning for years? Then you have a choice to make, and The Barefoot Executive will help jump-start your transition.
If you’ve ever dreamed of owning your own business “someday” then The Barefoot Executive is one book that you absolutely have to read. It has just the right balance of personal stories, inspiration and practical how-to tips.
I’ve read many business books over the years, probably because I always knew that I wanted to own my own business, but I found The Barefoot Executive to be refreshingly real and inspirational. Carrie Wilkerson was instantly likeable and reading through the book felt more like getting advice from a good friend in business than just reading a technical business book.
I really enjoyed Carrie’s writing style and quickly became engrossed in chapter after chapter. She gave real-life examples about how to choose a business that works for you and how to make that business successful. Her tips and advice were spot-on and incredibly inspiring. I got so excited while reading The Barefoot Executive that I would put the book down to go do something that Carrie suggested in the book then I’d go back to reading immediately because I couldn’t wait to see what she would suggest next.
As a blogger, one of the problems that I have to deal with is always having a million different little projects going on. It can be really, really hard to focus on one thing and get it done sometimes. So when I got to page 57 and read this little gem, it really struck home.
Here’s my big strategy success secret. When you’re working on many little projects, set a deadline on one. Pin yourself to the chair, don’t open your emails, don’t make any phone calls, don’t schedule any appointments, don’t go to the movies, don’t take any time off, but focus for one full business day. Focus and say, “I’m not getting up out of this chair until this is done.” You will be surprised and shocked at how productive you can be when you do that.
That piece of advice is probably worth the price of the book alone. Luckily, you will find lots more practical advice from Carrie Wilkerson, so buy the book! In fact, the only complain I have about this book is that I received a PDF copy to review so I wasn’t able to highlight all the good parts… but that’s probably a good thing because then the book would be covered in yellow.

I received a copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions are my own.
I purchased this through my Kindle; so there were video links from Carrie too. I’m about 1/2 way through the book and LOVE her-so much great information and advice!
