How NOT to Kill a StumbleUpon Post

The fastest way to kill a StumbleUpon post (and guarantee that it never gets any coveted StumbleUpon traffic) is to discover it in the wrong category. There is nothing worse than writing an awesome beauty product review and having someone discover it under an absurd category like Desktop Publishing or Car Parts.

This is a quick tutorial to show you how to discover a post properly and increase the chances of seeing a Stumble Explosion! Why do we want to see a Stumble Explosion? Because it will bring tons of new traffic to the blog of the person whose post you discovered AND your future Stumbles will have more power.

1. Bring up the web page or blog post you want to discover. Remember, discovering a post just means that it’s never stumbled (or given a thumbs up) before. Click on the thumbs up icon once using the Stumble Upon toolbar that you should have installed on your web browser.

2. After you click thumbs up, you’ll see a window pop-up that looks like this:

3. The first question it asks is if this content is safe for work. As long as it isn’t porn or some other type of obscene material, go ahead and click Yes.

4. Next you’ll see some topics/categories come up. This is the important part. If you’re in some sort of Stumble club, then use the EXACT topic/category the author has given you to use when you discover their content. If not, then look at the post and choose the topic/category that best describe the content. In this case, I’ve chosen Fashion as the topic. If they’ve given you more than one topic/category or the content fits into more than one category, then type those into the Tags section that follows.

5. This next step is just as important as discovering in the right topic/category. Type a short review into the Review section OR check out my post on how to review a StumbleUpon post in 2 seconds flat. Describe what the post is about or simply use the title. It only takes a few seconds and can make a HUGE difference between this post entering the Stumble queue or dying a slow StumbleUpon death.

6. Click Submit and you’re done!

While there’s no guarantee that the post you’ve discovered will “explode” and end up going viral, discovering a post under the right topic/category AND reviewing it will definitely increase those chances.

Thanks for all of the great info.  I really need the help with Stumble.  I hate when I discover something because I don't want to make a mistake and put the wrong tags and review.
